ERG Chairs are responsible for organizing timely, expert reviews of newly published books in their specialty, which Doody Enterprises sends them each month. Chairs make a three-year commitment, with the third year designed as a transition period during which Doody Enterprises and the Chair work together to identify and recruit a suitable successor.
The benefits of serving as an ERG Chair include:
- Receiving TWO copies of every English language book or software product published in the Chair's specialty within a month of Doody's receipt of the book. Since Chairs receive two copies of each publication, many Chairs see this as a way to build up departmental or institutional libraries.
- Enhancing the national exposure and reputation of the Chair's department through dissemination of reviews in Doody Enterprises' publications as well as through professional societies.
- Membership for the Chair and the reviewers in Doody's Reviewers' Club, an online book review and literature filtering publication that includes a weekly e-mail update of the new books and literature in the field.
The basic responsibilities of an ERG Chair include:
- Receiving a shipment of books accompanied by customized review paperwork on a monthly basis.
- In consultation with Doody Enterprises, determining which titles will be reviewed. (Between 60 and 75 percent of the titles delivered each month are designated for review.)
- Recruiting appropriate reviewers and providing them with the books and instructions for submitting the review online.
- Approving reviews within the four-week deadline.
